It is one of the nation's original three comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute.The primary purpose of the Mandarin Medical Interpreter/Translator is to provide interpretation and translation services to all institutional departments involved in patient care. In this regard, the Interpreter/Translator acts as part of the appropriate team within the hospital, and makes communication possible across language barriers while maintaining patient confidentiality.The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a foreign language or related field with at least one year of Mandarin interpretation in a clinical setting or related experience.Function- Provides oral and written translation of diverse patient care-related material.Scope- Impacts translation services provided to all institutional departments.Essential Job Functions- Provides written translation of patient histories and other medical reports, patient education and instructional material, advance directives, medical documents and other institutional publications. Provides oral translation of discussions related to patient referral, new patient registration, financial evaluation, patient assessment, treatment planning, admissions, discharge and other clinical and healthcare related discussions. Interprets clinical, financial, psychosocial and ethical discussions related to patient care activities. Serves as a resource to patients, staff and care providers to contribute to successful patient outcomes. Performs on-call translation duties requiring immediate response to electronic paging.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducationRequired: Bachelor's degree in a foreign language or related field.ExperienceRequired: One year of medical interpretation in a clinical setting or related experience.
